Holmleigh resident bowls over care community with cricket performance
A service user from Holmleigh Care is enjoying life at the crease having been selected for a disability team run by Gloucestershire Cricket Board.
Stephen Parsons, a resident at Elmlea care home in London Road, Gloucester, was chosen in March to play for Gloucestershire’s disability county team, having impressed coaches with his dedication to the sport.
Stephen has variety of care needs, but this has not prevented him playing in a tournament for the team in Hampshire against other local disability teams.
Suzanne Hanratty, Manager at Holmleigh’s Elmlea care home, said: “Stephen requires support with all aspects of daily life. However, he hasn’t let this stop him and he has gone on to do extremely well playing for Gloucestershire.
“He really enjoys playing cricket and we are so glad that this team is available locally to help him enjoy his passion.”
Matt Western, Director of Holmleigh Care, added: “We are all immensely proud of Stephen for his progress both on and off the cricket pitch.
“At Holmleigh we aim to help people live independent lives and I think this clearly demonstrates the nurturing nature of our staff and our group.”
